Base salary range: $56,527 - $73,486
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-9. Advanced degree or significant experience.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This seasonal job involves helping manage and organize historical artifacts and documents at Denali National Park in Alaska, including tasks like inventorying items, updating records, and maintaining storage areas.
It's a hands-on role that supports the park's museum collections during the busy summer months from April to September.
A good fit would be someone with experience in archives or museums, who enjoys detail-oriented work and has local knowledge of the Denali area.
NOTE: OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039-hour season.
This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season(s) reflected in this announcement. See the Additional Information section for details.
The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required.
Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

Areas considered "near" the Denali National Park and Preserve duty station include only: Anderson, Cantwell, Chulitna, Clear, Curry, Denali Park, Ferry, Healy, Kantishna, Lake Minchumina, McKinley Village, Nenana, Nikolai, Petersville, Talkeetna, Tanana, Telida, and Trapper Creek.

Applicants are not required to address these competencies in a separate document but are encouraged to include in their resumes experience related to these competencies: Knowledge of the methods and technology of museum collections management and procedures.
Knowledge of database management, word processing, and specialized software programs essential to object cataloging, management, and reference.
Ability to use machines, tools, instruments, and equipment effectively to house artifacts.
Ability to use knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job, to work with, understand, and evaluate technical information related to the job, and to advise others on technical issues.
Ability to identify, arrange, and describe archival collections according to professional records management standards. Major Duties:
If selected, you will work as a Museum Technician, GS-1016-07 at Denali National Park and Preserve.
Duties include but are not limited to the following: Assisting with the ongoing processing and arrangement of the park archival collection: inventory, rehouse, storage, and possible shipping.
Creating object storage units and mounts as part of rehousing and labeling collections to museum standards. This includes storage and heavy object moves.
Assisting with the completion of annual reporting on the museum collection. Updating museum catalog records in ICMS (MCMS) as needed. Resizing large files to import images in the database.
Along with a variety of other clerical operations for museum support, including: hardware, software and office records.
General environmental monitoring and housekeeping tasks and assisting with Integrated Pest Management and database recording.
