To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-09 without more than normal supervision.

(SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation repair, etc.

Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of measuring instruments Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc.

(includes blueprint reading) Knowledge of materials In addition, detailed experience must be demonstrated in your resume in a variety of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Water Treatment Plant Operations, Roofing, Electrical, Air Conditioning, Cement Work, Utilities Systems Repair, Engineering Equipment Operation, or other related trades.

The parks and duty stations hiring for these positions are below, as is each park's anticipated seasonal period.

The typical seasonal period may vary during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Bering Land Bridge National Preserve (Nome, AK): April - October Denali National Park and Preserve (Denali Park, Toklat and Kantishna (Wonder Lake), AK): April - September Applicants that apply to and are selected for Kantishna will be duty stationed at Wonder Lake, AK Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park (Skagway, AK): April - October Wrangell-St.

Elias National Park and Preserve (Copper Center, AK): May - September Positions may not be filled at every duty station. Selectees may be moved between duty stations within park boundaries.

Primary duties include but are not limited to design, planning, construction, rehabilitation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide variety of structures and utility systems.

Provides technical advice and leadership to co-workers. Leads work crews involved in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, heating, and utility system trades work.

Performs inspections and collects information. Determines best work practices and materials to complete assignments efficiently in compliance with codes, regulations, and NPS goals.

Reads and interprets blueprints, code books, State and Federal Regulations, and other technical information. Operates a variety of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.

Conducts safety training sessions and performs Job Hazard Analysis. Provides oversight of facilities and work processes to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.

Identifies and orders materials using a government credit card.

Uses government computers and computer programs, such as Facility Management Software System (FMSS), Project Management Information System (PMIS), DOI Talent, and Microsoft Office, including MS Word, MS Excel, and the Internet.

Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury.

Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.

Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding.

Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment, paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects.

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected.
