Full Job Description

The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative professional with demonstrated expertise in evaluating biomedical training and career development programs.

They would be deeply committed to career growth and professional development for trainees and have experience integrating evidence based programming strategies into a training environment.

In order to qualify for this position in the GS-601 General medical and Healthcare Series, you must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position.

All education, unless completed outside of the U.S., must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the education was completed.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In addition, in order to qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing the full lifecycle of biomedical training or workforce development programs, from design and implementation to final evaluation; developing new training initiatives in response to identified workforce needs, training gaps, or emerging scientific trends; guiding trainees at multiple career and educational stages on their individual scientific career development; organizing large-scale events such as scientific workshops, conferences, or symposia and directing the work of subordinates by planning workloads, assigning tasks, and leading team projects.

As a Science Education Coordinator, your duties will include, but are not limited to the following: Stimulates, plans, advises, directs, and evaluates program activities for a portfolio of biomedical workforce training in the assigned program area and the discovery, development and evaluation of associated career and wellness strategies for biomedical trainees.

Formulates and presents new basic, translational, and clinical research training concepts, projects and initiatives to appropriate advisory groups and formulates and develops announcements to achieve objectives.

Provides expert advice and makes recommendations regarding actions on matters relating to research training in assigned program areas.

Establishes criteria and standards for others to follow in planning, reviewing, and evaluating biomedical training projects. Consult with and advise trainees to provide guidance on program issues.

Monitors scientific/training progress for intramural trainees, program relevance, and merit.

Determines the need for and/or makes site visits to all NIH campuses to evaluate training efforts and initiates appropriate action when career, professional, and/or research progress is inadequate.

Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work based on current and projected needs.
