Job Description

Summary

This job supports school operations in Guam by handling supplies, inventory, and maintenance requests for the Department of Defense Education Activity.

It involves tracking budgets, using computer systems for records, and some physical tasks like lifting up to 40 pounds.

A good fit would be someone organized with administrative experience, comfortable in a tropical overseas location, and eligible under federal hiring categories like veterans or military spouses.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-05 level: managing inventory of supplies, using automated systems to record inventory, and assisting with equipment maintenance work orders
  • For GS-06: One year of specialized experience at GS-05 level: tracking and ordering supplies, managing a yearly budget for supplies, and assisting with monitoring a purchase card program
  • Education alternative for GS-05: Four years above high school from an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college, or university, or a combination of education and experience

About the Position: Guam is a U.S. island territory in Micronesia, in the Western Pacific. It's distinguished by tropical beaches, Chamorro villages and ancient latte-stone pillars.

Federal employees in Guam may be entitled to receive a 11.88% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) and a 20% Post Differential Allowance in addition to the base salary.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages.

OR Specialized experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes track and order supplies; manage a yearly budget for supplies; and assist with monitoring a purchase card program.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this grade, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

The work is partially sedentary; however, it requires regular walking, bending, standing, carrying or lifting items up to 40 pounds, lifting above shoulder height boxes weighing 40 pounds, and unloading/loading vehicles.

Weight-handling equipment is available for heavier loads.

Time in Grade Requirement GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement GS-05: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) positions within the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks. Major Duties:

  • Utilize supply and logistic support systems for standard requisitioning, stock, storing, records and issuing procedures.
  • Verify and record serial numbers upon receipt of goods, bar codes items.
  • Assure school support requirements are prepared, edited, and submitted to the Area Director's office for the purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Serve as property custodian maintaining a perpetual inventory of non-expendable property and supply records for durable items in the school.
  • Assist Area and District personnel with physical security inspections to ensure adequate security measures are in place and adhered to.
  • Assure all supply transactions are recorded in an automated system and that copies of documents are file appropriately to maintain an adequate automated and hard-copy audit trail.
  • Set or revise stock levels for authorized items available through the supply system.
  • Assist in monitoring the school safety and security programs to ensure compliance with program requirements of DoDEA and the supporting military installation.
