Summary

This role supports school operations at a military base in Fort Knox, Kentucky, by handling tasks like managing supplies, tracking inventory, and processing maintenance requests.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-05 level, including managing inventory, using automated systems for records, and processing work orders for equipment maintenance
  • For GS-06: One year of specialized experience including tracking and ordering supplies, managing a yearly budget for supplies, and assisting with monitoring a purchase card program (no education substitution allowed)
  • Education alternative for GS-05: Four years above high school in business, secretarial, or technical fields, or a combination of education and experience
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, standing, and lifting/carrying items up to 40 pounds, including above shoulder height and loading/unloading vehicles
  • Meet one of the specified employment eligibility categories (e.g., current DoD civilian, military spouse preference, veterans)

About the Position: This position is located in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Fort Knox is a United States Army Installation in Kentucky, south of Louisville and north of Elizabethtown.

This position is covered by the Classified Federal Education Association Stateside Region DD2396 bargaining unit.

Specialized Experience for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes managing inventory of supplies; utilizing automated systems to record inventory; and assisting with processing work orders for equipment maintenance.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages.

Specialized experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes tracking and ordering supplies; managing a yearly budget for supplies; and assisting with monitoring a purchase card program.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this grade, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

The work is partially stationary; however, it requires regular walking, bending, standing, carrying or lifting items up to 40 pounds, lifting above shoulder height boxes weighing 40 pounds, and unloading/loading vehicles.

Time in Grade Requirement for GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement for GS-05: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) positions within the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks.

Major Duties:

  • Utilize supply and logistic support systems for standard requisitioning, stock, storing, records and issuing procedures.
  • Verify and record serial numbers upon receipt of goods, bar codes items.
  • Assure school support requirements are prepared, edited, and submitted to the Area Director's office for the purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Serve as property custodian maintaining a perpetual inventory of non-expendable property and supply records for durable items in the school.
  • Assist Area and District personnel with physical security inspections to ensure adequate security measures are in place and adhered to.
  • Assure all supply transactions are recorded in an automated system and that copies of documents are file appropriately to maintain an adequate automated and hard-copy audit trail.
  • Set or revise stock levels for authorized items available through the supply system.
  • Assist in monitoring the school safety and security programs to ensure compliance with program requirements of DoDEA and the supporting military installation.
