Computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other specialized applications related to area of assignment Two-way radio communication devices and other related equipment Basic arithmetic (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, ratios, and fractions) English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation Proper methods of performing various types of manual labor Principles of effective customer service Basic principles and practices of waste disposal and recycling Ability toLearn and apply laws, rules, and regulations related to refuse and disposal Understand and follow department policies and procedures Learn to operate vehicles and heavy equipment, and power and hand tools used in the collection and disposal of refuse Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with co-workers and the public Learn safety work methods and safety regulations pertaining to refuse and other recyclable material collection and equipment operation Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing Understand and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations Make arithmetical computations accurately and rapidly Effectively organize and prioritize work assignments Keep accurate and orderly records Maintain confidential information Read, understand, and adhere to County and department policies and procedures relating to area of assignment Complete and submit department forms when required.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action Learn to identify different types of waste and recycling in order to audit residential containers Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met Adapt to new technologies, work processes, and equipment Use technology for record keeping, training, and communication Follow verbal and written instructions Qualifications Minimum QualificationsPossession of a valid Driver’s License, Class C or higher.Note: If the minimum qualifications include an educational or certificate/license requirement, applicants must submit proof of requirements with the application.

82-602, Personnel Policies, and applicable federal and state laws.
The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidate’s ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist.
For purposes of accessing criminal history information, the candidate will be fingerprinted.
A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class.
The background check may include personal and professional reference checks, credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5, Social Security Number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information and driving history.
Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection process.
In obtaining such information, the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.License Requirement: A valid Driver License, Class C or higher, is required at the time of appointment.
Incumbents in this class must obtain a valid California Commercial Driver’s License, Class B or higher, without an Airbrake Restriction, within 150 days of appointment.
Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License, or comply with state and federal requirements for utilization, may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.
Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.Physical Requirements: Some positions in this class require the incumbent to be able to:Frequently stand and walk up to 6 miles on a daily basis.Frequently bend, stoop, kneel and crouch.Occasionally climb on and off equipment.Occasionally sit for extended periods of time while operating equipment.Have sufficient strength, stamina and agility to perform heavy manual labor for varying periods of time.Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds without assistance; in excess of 75 pounds with assistance.Occasionally push or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance; in excess of 100 pounds with assistance.Individuals who do not meet these requirements due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.Working Conditions: Positions in this class require the incumbent to:Work outside in all types of climatic conditions including inclement and very hot weather.Work around dust, dirt, odors, and refuse.Work in loud or noisy areas.Work around machinery and equipment with moving parts.Work in enclosed tight spaces.Work various shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and non-routine hours.Probationary PeriodThe probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.

While scoring the Supplemental Questionnaire, the candidate's application and/or attachments will not be reviewed, therefore, a candidate's responses to the questions should be accurate, thorough, detailed, and complete.
FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%) All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.
This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience.
The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination.
Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete.
The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.
All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox.
Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
