Job Description

Summary

This job involves inspecting and improving safety practices at a naval facility in Washington, focusing on handling missiles, explosives, and other high-risk operations to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with rules.

A good fit would be someone with experience in workplace safety, especially in industrial or military settings, who is detail-oriented and comfortable working in hazardous environments like confined spaces or around weapons.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent, evaluating safety and health measures to control hazardous processes or conditions
  • Ability to survey facilities and monitor safe work methods for missile component processing, storage, assembly, renovation, modifications, and transportation
  • Experience serving as Safety Loading Officer during explosive and strategic weapons operations, including on-load and off-load at wharfs
  • Skills in annual assessments, atmospheric testing, permit preparation, hazard mitigation, and supervision of confined spaces
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, recommending corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Capability to perform scheduled and unscheduled safety inspections, evaluations, and accident/incident investigations

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: evaluating the safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes or environmental conditions.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will survey facilities, monitoring safe work methods used in Trident II Missile component processing, storage, assembly, renovation, modifications, and transportation.
  • You will perform duties as Safety Loading Officer (SLO) during all explosive and strategic weapons (TRIDENT II) and torpedo on-load and off-load operations at the Explosive Handling Wharf.
  • You will be responsible for annual assessment, atmospheric testing, preparation of permits, mitigating hazards, monitoring, and supervising confined spaces at Strategic Weapons Facility, Pacific (SWFPAC).
  • You will conduct risk assessments to recommend corrective action and hazard control measures for deficiencies to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • You will perform scheduled and unscheduled safety and occupational health inspections, assessments, evaluations, and accident/incident investigations.
