This job involves helping the city's administrative departments stay safe by investigating accidents, running safety training sessions, conducting inspections, and managing programs like driver safety to prevent injuries, property damage, and legal issues.

Organizes, coordinates, and attends meetings with the accident review boards, safety committees.Provides or recommends visual aids, training aids, and other materials on specific safety subjects.Performs ergonomic assessments and recommends safety specifications and protective devices for equipment and fixed structures.Prepares and presents a variety of safety and training programs to employees, supervisors, and managers to disseminate information relating to safety goals, regulations, practices, techniques and standards.
Conducting presentations includes occasionally lifting and carrying audio-visual equipment weighing 25 pounds.Leads the effort to develop and maintain departmental safety policies, manuals, standard operating procedures, and accident review boards for the city's administrative departments.Investigates accidents and injuries involving city personnel or city equipment, as well as complaints launched by personnel.Reviews reports of injuries, property damage, liability, vehicle collisions, claims involving the department and initiates appropriate action.Conducts planned and unplanned safety audits and inspections to reduce occupational safety risk factors and ensure compliance with safety directives and federal, state and local regulations.Oversees department's Driver Safety Program to include annual drivers' evaluations, medical re- certifications, moving violation warrants, and suspended licenses.Monitors drug/alcohol testing programs for drivers and high risk positions.Monitor records of employees to identify eligibility for various safety awards and to identify when disciplinary actions should be taken due to safety violations.Compiles numerical data showing accident frequency, severity and related costs.
Uses this information to analyze accident related trends and costs for the department.Advises department management on changes needed to meet safety goals.Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.
One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.
One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
