SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety Office of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Evaluating work for compliance with applicable construction safety and occupational health regulations, standards, principles, and practices; 2) Using mishap investigation techniques and Human Factors Analysis Classification System (HFACS) to investigate and provide recommendations; 3) Developing and implementing workplace safety training; 4) Using knowledge of trade occupations, machinery, and maintenance techniques to identify failures in human or equipment performance; AND 5) Operating instruments such as sulfide detector, oxygen level indicator, and sampling pumps to detect hazardous atmospheres and working conditions.

• You will administer and promote safety management system through development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation.
• You will coordinate with management, employees, safety offices, and other support lines to ensure consistent application and enforcement of safety policies.
• You will conduct mishap or near miss investigations involving Navy personnel and/or damage to government property.
• You will serve as a technical authority and subject matter expert of the safety program.
