Base salary range: $147,649 - $221,900

Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves managing state-owned land and properties related to highway projects, including selling excess land, handling leases, preparing legal documents for transfers, and overseeing maintenance until properties are disposed of.

The Iowa Department of Transportation's Right of Way Bureau is made up of 44 full-time employees who coordinate utility relocation, all property acquisitions, and sales for highway improvement projects throughout the state.
Our bureau is looking to hire a Right of Way Property Manager (Right-of-Way Agent 3) to join our team and be a steward for the public’s assets.
Our Property Managers provide general management of property before, during, and after highway construction projects.
After a project is completed, they also dispose of land and improvements no longer needed.

Location: Property Management Section, Right of Way Bureau, Ames, Iowa
Shift Requirements: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (flexible schedule), in-person with option for partial telework schedule. Occasional travel and overnights for project visits or conferences.
As a Right of Way Property Manager, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Selling excess land and improvements pursuant to Iowa DOT policies, procedures, and all other applicable state and federal regulations
- Preparing State Land Patents, Quitclaim Deeds, and other documents required to transfer property from the State of Iowa to private individuals, companies, or local public agencies
- Performing field reviews of property subject to leases, reviewing documents for accuracy, and determining current market lease values
- Managing excess land owned by the State of Iowa until sale or lease can occur
- Identifying properties that will require continuous maintenance and monitoring consultants hired for mowing or snow removal services
- Performing routine audits of the right-of-way activities of local public agencies and providing guidance for local projects
- Securing possession of buildings purchased in connection with highway improvement projects and coordinating the demolition of acquired structures
