This part-time role involves providing hands-on care and support to children and adolescents in a mental health treatment facility, including escorting them to activities, monitoring their safety, and helping maintain a calm environment.
It requires using de-escalation techniques during emergencies and acting as a positive role model through good communication and behavior.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking a Part-time Resident Treatment Worker (RTW) to join our team!
This is a part-time position with opportunity for advancement, growth, and development and in addition to the base pay, there is an available shift differential of $0.90 per hour for second shift and$1.00 per hour for third shift.
The RTW provides direct care to patients as prescribed by the Individual Treatment Plan.This position routinely escorts patients to activities off the ward as needed for meals, medical appointments, recreation, and other activities within the institution.
Specialized duties and other responsibilities covering a variety of practical tasks essential for the operation of the unit to maintain an efficient, clean, and safe environment for patients and staff may be assigned as well.
RTWs perform essential safety functions including, but not limited to, being present on and observing patient wards, monitoring the tone of each area to assist in maintaining a calm and therapeutic environment, identifying potential situations that need to be addressed, utilizing de-escalation techniques as needed, responding to and participating in emergency codes, and conducting observation and/or security checks.
This position is a role model for patients so the successful candidate should also exhibit good skills in language, behavior, attitude, and personal interactions.
Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.
IMHI provides inpatient treatment and acute psychiatric services, including individualized treatment plans and support for children and adolescent patients to continue their education.
Individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well.
