Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting religious programs in a federal prison by helping chaplains with administrative tasks, maintaining records, and ensuring smooth operations for inmate activities across all faiths.

It also requires assisting with security and supervising daily inmate interactions in the religious area.

Key Requirements

  • Experience maintaining time and attendance records, using codes, and handling supporting documentation
  • Ability to support religious programming by preparing educational materials, audio-visual displays, and logistical needs for all faiths
  • Supervisory skills for day-to-day inmate activities, pass system administration, and ensuring program security
  • Responsibility for institutional security, which takes precedence over other duties and is performed regularly
  • Graduate education may substitute if directly related to the position, though education alone is generally not credited above GS-5

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: As a general rule, education is not credible above GS-05 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.

To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience in maintaining and controlling department records, documents and other materials, and assisting with ensuring program requirements are met.

Experience in assisting with financial documentation, such as, maintaining and purchasing office supplies, tracking and verifying invoices.

Experience in clerical duties, preparing and typing correspondence, to include ensuring format, grammar, spelling and correct punctuation.

Experience in keying, submitting, and maintaining Time and Attendance and files, to include proper use of codes and supporting documentation.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

**Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.** Major Duties:

Supports the Chaplains, volunteers, and religious programming of all faiths in the institution or the Life Connections unit.

Maintains the records, ecclesiastical documents, materials, and other references for the institution's religious groups or Life Connections Program.

Assist in the preparation of devotional and religious educational materials and audio-visual displays.

Work with the chaplaincy or Life Connections team to determine, develop, manage and maintain the logistical support requirements of the religious program.

Helps supervise day-to-day inmate activities, programs, security, and provides administration of the inmate pass system in the religious program area.

Performs clerical duties to include, typing, filing, proofreading, time and attendance, recording and transcribing meeting minutes as well as serves on the planning committees.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

The staff's correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
