Job Description

Summary

This job offers former Houston Fire Department firefighters who were certified as firefighters and EMTs a chance to rejoin the team after a 5-week re-acclimation training program focused on fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.

It involves participating in drills, lectures, and practical sessions to get back up to speed.

Ideal candidates are ex-HFD members with active certifications who want to return to frontline emergency response in Houston.

Key Requirements

  • Former HFD Classified Member who achieved the rank of Firefighter
  • Active/Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Firefighter Certification
  • Active/Current Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) EMT Certification (minimum Basic level)
  • Successful completion of all hiring phases: fingerprints, motor vehicle report, physical ability test, interview, background check, immunizations, drug screen, and medical examination
  • No felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions or community supervision
  • Provide immunization/shot records prior to job offer

FOR THE POSITION OF
FIRE FIGHTER

Exciting things are happening at the Houston Fire Department (HFD) and this is a phenomenal opportunity for former HFD Classified members to rejoin the team.

Eligible to Apply:
  • Former HFD Classified Members - Certified Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians

Requirements

1. Must have obtained the rank of Firefighter as a HFD Classified member
2. An Active/Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Certification AND
3. An Active/Current Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Certification

DUTIES:

Re-acclimation training (5 Weeks) - participates in lectures, seminars, and practical training sessions.Receives and participates in various types of training in fire suppression and emergency medical services.Participates in drills, demonstrations and instruction in hydraulics, pump operation, maintenance, fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.APPLICATION PROCESS:ONLY “on-line” applications will be accepted.

Texas Commission of Fire Protection State Fire Fighters Certification and Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Emergency Medical Technician Certification(s), minimum EMT Basic, will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department.

Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technicians Certification as a Paramedic will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department.
