FULTON COUNTY SUMMER INTERNSHIP
DEPARTMENT OF REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS


Overview

The Fulton County Summer Internship Program provides a paid, hands-on learning experience designed to prepare students for future careers in public service.

Interns assigned to the Department of Registration & Elections will gain exposure to the full range of departmental functions, including voter registration, absentee ballot processing, outreach, and election operations.

This internship is ideal for students interested in government, public administration, civic engagement, or election processes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 17 years old.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior in high school, or as a full-time student at an accredited college or university.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 29 hours per week on-site for the duration of the internship program.
  • Must demonstrate interest in public service, government operations, or civic engagement.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties will vary depending on placement within the department. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with planning and implementing employee and citizen engagement events, meetings, and activities, including coordinating themes, logistics, timelines, and materials.
  • Support the setup, monitoring, and execution of engagement events, classes, and activities; assist with troubleshooting issues and recommending solutions.
  • Provide information and customer service to members of the public regarding outreach initiatives, voter education, and departmental programs.
  • Distribute and collect surveys; assist with assessment and evaluation of events and activities.
  • Prepare summary reports of assessments, including recommendations for improvements or modifications.
  • Maintain filing systems and departmental records: prepare files, organize documentation, scan records, and ensure proper retention in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Retrieve, replace, and update files; conduct routine records maintenance activities.
  • Research, compile, and monitor administrative or statistical data related to department operations; summarize findings, perform basic data analysis, and prepare reports.
  • Conduct research using department files, legal records, database systems, electronic data sources, internet resources, and other materials as needed.
Work Environment

Interns will work under close supervision and will support the goals and daily operations of their assigned division within the Department of Registration & Elections.

Work may be performed in office settings, warehouse environments, or community locations. Some assignments may require outdoor work or lifting up to 25 lbs.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during election periods.


Qualifications

  • Academic Standing: Must be at least 17 years old, and must be a recent high school graduate (or G.E.D.), an undergraduate student, or enrolled in a technical college
  • Availability: Commit to a minimum of 29 hours per week on-site for the duration of the 12-week program.
  • Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from the Fulton County Elections Hub
