Job Description

Summary

This job is for a registered nurse at the Utah State Developmental Center, where you'll care for people with intellectual disabilities by creating care plans, giving medications, and helping with daily health needs in a calm, supportive setting.

Key Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Utah
  • Knowledge of drug interactions, adverse reactions, dosages, and medication administration
  • Ability to administer first aid and CPR
  • Skills in patient assessment, developing and revising care plans, and implementing nursing interventions
  • Proficiency in documenting patient information and maintaining records in computer systems
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities (preferred)
  • One or more years of professional RN experience (preferred)

Principle Job Duties
  • Developing and revising plan of care based on assessments data and individuals' outcomes.
  • Implementing prescribed nursing interventions.
  • Documenting timely, outcome based information.
  • Administering prescribed medications as needed.
  • Assisting in transporting individuals to medical appointments outside of the facility or to on-site clinics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Will have a Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Utah.
  • One or more years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred but not required.
  • One or more years of professional experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • Providing direct patient care oriented toward improving or maintaining health and preventing illness.
  • Maintaining and updating patient charts, records, and information in an in-house computer program.
  • Performing physical examinations and/or preventive health measures to assess and evaluate patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Coordinating clinical activities and follow-up.
  • In-servicing direct care staff to assist individuals in taking medications through a self-medication program.
  • Working with individuals with feeding pumps and administering medications through G & J tubes.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of interactions and adverse reactions of drugs, medications and their dosage
  • administer first aid and/or CPR
  • make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions
  • speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally
  • information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effectiveness
  • follow and apply treatment plans as developed by a licensed professional
  • communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing
  • maintain confidentiality and deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • computer skills including ability to use Microsoft office suite
  • understanding of psychiatric disorders and medication management
  • ability to observe details at close range and at a distance.
  • ability to observe physical conditions, behavior or surroundings for potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity.
  • ability to hear sounds that may indicate potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity.

  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lb) with or without a reasonable accommodation, in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

    SCHEDULE: Vaious shifts Available-
  • AM (5:00 am-3:30 pm),
  • (6:00 am-2:30 pm) or (6:00 am-4:30 pm)
  • PM (1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)
    Graveyard (5:30 PM-6:00 AM)
    Days Off: Various
    Guaranteed 40 hours a week work schedule.
