Full Job Description
Reporting to the Nurse Manager of Health Services, the PRN Registered Nurse provides nursing care, health advice, outreach and education to students in coordination with other health team members. Utilizes foundational nursing knowledge, clinical policies and procedures, standing orders and protocols when seeing patients presenting for basic primary and urgent care visits. Triages, assesses, counsels, educates and makes decisions regarding care or referral of patients. Works in all aspects of urgent care, basic first aid, women’s health, sexually transmitted infections, sports injuries and routine medical problems of adults. Possesses and maintains working knowledge of medications and treatments. Obtains and processes patient specimens for diagnostic testing purposes. This position is temporary and is called upon when needed based on departmental staffing.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in nursing, three-year diploma in nursing, or associate's degree in nursing required. A valid, unencumbered South Carolina RN license is required before the hire date. Applicants must be in good standing with SC State Board of Nursing. Current, non-expired American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification required.
Ability to interview, triage patients and make decisions regarding disposition of care; perform basic medical tasks required of an urgent care clinical setting; handle stressful situations in a professional manner, communicate effectively both in writing and verbally, take initiative and work independently; establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, students, co-workers, faculty, staff and the general public. Effective organizational, interpersonal and teaching skills.
Qualifications
Basic computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
