Summary

This job involves working as a registered nurse in Nashville schools, where you'll assess students' health needs, provide care and screenings, manage medications, and keep health records to support student well-being.

It's a part-time role (71%) in a supportive public health environment with good benefits and regular hours.

Key Requirements

  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing (Bachelor’s preferred); must demonstrate competency if not holding a Bachelor’s
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Tennessee (or eligible via Nurse Licensure Compact, with license obtained within 30 days of hire)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Complete a department-approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment
  • Valid Class D driver’s license, personal vehicle, and valid vehicle insurance per Tennessee law
  • At least 6 months of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to work with multicultural communities and demonstrate cultural responsiveness

Requirements

Provides nursing services in Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools.Evaluates the health needs of students attending assigned schools.Provides or arranges for selected screenings and assessments.Provides care coordination/case management.Provides generalized health services.Implements medication distribution system.Maintains student health records.Performs related duties.

Qualifications Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing.

Candidates with Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing must establish a documented ability to competently perform all functions of this classification to be considered.

Bachelor’s degree from a state-approved school of nursing preferred.

  • Must be Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee. Applicants holding a Registered Nurse license from a state that participates in the “Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact” may be hired, but must obtain their Tennessee license within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
  • All public health nurses are required to complete a department approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment. Possess required competencies upon hiring.
  • Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
  • Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Governments employment-based immigration programs.
