This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526.

As the Registered Nurse, Non-Institutional, under general supervision you will plan, implement and provide direct nursing care to all patients of the Conway Clinic for Waccamaw Center for Mental Health. In collaboration with the treatment team, you will evaluate the effectiveness of care/interventions and discharge planning.

Responsibilities for the Registered Nurse Non-Institutional:

  • Provide psychiatric nursing services to all patients with chronic and persistent mental illness, and children /adolescents with severe emotional disturbances.
  • Service provided may include making observations, administering medication including oral and injections, provide counseling and education to patients and their families, and utilizing other appropriate resources as needed.
  • Perform urine drug screens and other necessary tasks as requested by immediate supervisor and clinic supervisor.
  • Work directly with staff psychiatrist/physicians to coordinate medication needs and concerns.
  • Participate in treatment team meeting to gain assistance in the formulation and implementation of these plans.
  • Promote and help maintain the health of individuals and families through teaching, counseling and rehabilitative measures.
  • Coordinate needed community support and work closely with community support staff members.
  • Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF Standards.
  • Assist with nursing/medical consultation to team members while participation in staffing and meetings to provide coverage for other team members and nurses.
  • Assist in all the operations and organization of the medical supply room. Ensure medications are accounted for and processed/logged correctly.
  • Order medications as needed, to help with the maintaining of the rooms, such as verifying expiration dates and medications.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs.
  • Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Prior work experience in mental health setting.

Additional Information

Post hire, Employee Must:
  • Be able to provide a 10-year DMV driving records.
  • Be able to use a state vehicle for work related purposes.
  • Use clinical judgement while working independently and be self-directed.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Have capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Be able to work with repetitive patient's behaviors.
  • Be able to show evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care.
  • Meet OMH credentialing requirements.
