Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing the daily operations of a clinic inside a correctional facility, where you'll supervise nursing staff, provide direct patient care, and ensure inmates receive proper medical and mental health treatment.

Key Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Michigan registered nurse license in good standing
  • Completion of a nursing degree or program approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing
  • At least two years of experience as a Registered Nurse P11, or one year as Registered Nurse 12 or Registered Nurse Manager 12
  • Ability to oversee day-to-day clinic operations and supervise nursing staff including Registered Professional Nurses
  • Experience providing direct patient care and ensuring appropriate health services in correctional settings
  • Knowledge of medical and mental health treatment in general population and segregation units

This employee oversees the day-to-day operations of the correctional clinic supervising all nursing staff to include
Registered Professional Nurses, providing direct patient care, and assuring that all patients receive appropriate health care.
Oversees health care provided in facility general population/segregation units to include medical and mental health
treatment.

Requirements

Education
Completion of a degree in nursing or nursing school educational program accepted for registered nurse licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.

Experience
Two years of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11 or one year equivalent to a Registered Nurse 12 or a Registered Nurse Manager 12.

Qualifications

Alternate Education and Experience

Registered Nurse Manager 13

Possession of a master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11; or, possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for six months of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.

All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
