Public Health Seattle-King County is accepting applications for Registered Nurse (RN) correctional health specialty.

Requirements

  • Provide patient care based upon practice guidelines, community standards of care, and Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Provide nursing assessments and interventions including medical, dental and psychiatric screening. Monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response.
  • Evaluate, monitor and treat drug and alcohol withdrawal.
  • Carry out prescribed treatments, wound care.
  • Administers medications and vaccinations.
  • Provide mental health services, as a member of an interdisciplinary team, to patients.
  • Respond to emergencies throughout the facility; injury and illness; performs CPR when needed.
  • Provide health education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Requires current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Associate preparation in nursing science or higher-level nursing degree of BSN, MSN, DNP and or PhD from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must pass a security clearance, background check, pre-employment physical and credentialing.
  • BLS-CPR for healthcare providers
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to travel to various sites within Seattle-King County.

Work Schedule: These positions are benefitted, Term-Limited Temporary and Career Service with a range of 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.

The Term-Limited Temporary positions are projected to last for 18 months but could be extended or termed based on funding and operational needs. Career Service positions do not have a term limit.

Any of the positions can cover morning, evening and/or night shifts. May work outside of the typical schedule assigned to meet operational needs.

These positions are subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.

Work Location: The primary work locations are at the King County Correctional Facility located at 500 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104.

Interviews for these opportunities will begin the week of February 11th-13th and will continue until all needs are met.

Additional Information Public Health - Jail Health Services follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders.

PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

  • Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
  • Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or,
  • Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.

Additionally, PREA standards require that the department consider any incidents of sexual harassment involving an inmate or detainee in determining whether or not to hire or promote anyone.
