Summary

This role involves a registered nurse supporting child welfare services by overseeing healthcare and dental needs for children in foster care across multiple counties in South Carolina.

The nurse will document medical follow-ups, train staff and families on health issues, collaborate with providers and community partners, and help ensure kids get timely care.

  • The Registered Nurse position will provide support to several counties in the Upstate and Midlands region and provide oversight for meeting the health care needs for families and children involved with Child Welfare Services.

Ensures that the health care and dental needs and services of children in Foster Care are correctly and timely documented.

Advises staff on follow-up services recommended by providers when a child has a medical, behavioral, or dental health need.

Documents the need for follow-up care; reports on and manages missing follow up health care needs; and communicates gaps in care to DSS case managers.


Provides consultation and training to staff, contract providers, foster parents, birth parents and other entities regarding the health care needs of children in Foster Care.

Works with community partners and advocates for children in Foster Care, and families and children in Family Preservation and Child Protective Services cases.

Regularly meets with regional and county offices to consult with case managers, supervisors, and county office staff.


  • Identifies new reporting needs, reports barriers to children receiving care, and engages in continual quality improvement. Serves on inter-agency teams to address systemic and individual barriers to health care.

  • Collaborates with external health care providers, Medicaid and State MCO, pharmacies, and hospitals to ensure children and youth have health care and dental needs met. Assists to ensure follow-up visits occur for treatment needs.

  • Will be required to perform shelter/emergency response duties as directed.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience. Requires licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.

Incumbent must have and maintain a valid SC driver's license while employed in this position.

Qualifications

Pediatric health care experience preferred.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
