Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping deaf individuals in South Carolina find and keep jobs by building community connections, assessing their skills, creating personalized employment plans, and providing counseling and direct job placement support.

It focuses on serving the Midlands region and requires strong communication in American Sign Language.

Key Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field qualifying under CSPD guidelines
  • Fluency in American Sign Language at Intermediate level (as measured by SLPI), with Advanced or higher preferred
  • Ability to counsel and advise deaf persons toward vocational goals
  • Knowledge of communication, cultural, and psychosocial needs of deaf individuals using ASL
  • Familiarity with employment issues related to deafness and hearing loss
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and resources for workplace communication access
  • Valid driver's license with clean 10-year driving record (required for interview)

In this position you will perform the following job duties:
  • Develop and maintain community relationships that result in consumer referrals for the deaf community in each region served.
  • Conduct and coordinate communication assessments, vocational assessments, career exploration, and job preparation instruction and design individualized plan for employment (IPE)
  • Provide quality vocational rehabilitation counseling and guidance services necessary for the consumer to prepare for, achieve, and maintain a successful employment outcome; including direct job placement.
  • Complete caseload management activities weekly
  • Serve Midlands areas
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

Master's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology or other degree qualifying under CSPD guidelines.

Fluency in American Sign Language required as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI). Required entry level - Intermediate.

Ability to counsel and advise deaf persons toward a vocational goal. Must be able to communicate fluently and effectively in American Sign Language.

Must have considerable knowledge of and understanding of the communication, cultural and psychosocial needs of deaf persons who use ASL.

Must be familiar with employment issues related to deafness and hearing loss and must be familiar with assistive technology and resources available to provide communication access in the workplace.If invited to interview, please obtain your Official 10 year driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles to bring with you.

Official transcripts will be required to verify college degree. Qualifications Fluency in American Sign Language required as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI).
