Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping to plan, run, and promote community recreation programs, especially those focused on sports and athletics, while supervising staff and managing facilities in San Antonio.

Full Job Description

Under general direction, is responsible for assisting with the planning and administration of municipal recreational programs. Accountable for technical work in a recreational specialty, and administrative work in assisting in the planning and promotional phases of the programs.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Work Hours
Monday - Friday varying shifts from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. Some weekend, early morning and evening hours depending on athletic events or special events.

Requirements

  • Approves, coordinates, implements and reviews program activities and special events at centers.
  • Schedules rooms, recreation areas, facilities and fields for community use when requested.
  • Promotes and refers citizens to community programs that best meet their needs.
  • Assumes responsibility for equipment and supplies. Keeps inventory current, and orders new materials and equipment, occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing 10-15 pounds.
  • Assumes responsibility for the building and grounds, including completing maintenance reports and making suggestions for new facilities, when needed.
  • Speaks at Community Clubs, PTA, and other organizations on recreation programs.
  • Assists in preparing, reviewing, monitoring, and compiling program budgets.
  • Plans, organizes, promotes, reviews and directs municipal leagues and tournaments in individual and team sports, to include conducting registration sessions; setting dates and times; determining sites and other related responsibilities, depending on area of assignment.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.Two (2) years of experience instructing and/or implementing and evaluating recreation programs.Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience in athletic tournaments.Knowledge of boxing.Experience in facilities management and sport related special events.Applicant InformationIf selected for this position, official transcripts, diplomas, certifications and licenses must be submitted at the time of processing.

If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
