Full Job Description


The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program with the Utah National Guard is seeking enthusiasticThe MWR Recreation Facilitator is a seasonal, as-needed position that runs from May to September. This position is responsible for delivering safe, engaging recreational and team-building activities during scheduled events at Camp Williams. Facilitators work only on the day(s) of scheduled events and support program execution under the direction of MWR leadership.

Work hours are not guaranteed and vary based on event demand. Weekly hours may rangefrom zero (0) to approximately twenty-five (25) hours, depending on scheduling needs.

Work Schedule & Employment Status
  • Seasonal, part-time, as-needed position (May through September)? Required training (If hired, you must attend mandatory certification training from May 5–7, 2026. Additional training sessions will be scheduled the following week after all seasonal positions are filled.)
  • Hours are not guaranteed
  • Weekly hours may vary from 0–25 hours
  • Work is dependent on event scheduling and operational needs
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required
  • On-site training is required. Once trained, if you do not complete at least three months of employment with MWR, you may be required to reimburse the costs of training.


Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for these positions has:
  • Experience in outdoor recreation, facilitation, or youth programming.
  • Familiarity with ropes courses, climbing, or military-style activities.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Prior experience working in structured safety environments.
  • Lifeguard certifications, ropes certifications, swimming instructor certification.

Requirements

Activity Facilitation
  • Facilitate assigned recreational and team-building activities, including:
    • Leadership Reaction Course (LRC)
    • High and Low Ropes Courses
    • Military Rappel Tower
    • Rock Climbing Wall
    • Team-building games and group initiatives
  • Provide clear instructions and age-appropriate demonstrations.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and positive participant engagement.
Safety & Compliance
  • Conduct required safety briefings prior to activities.
  • Ensure proper use and fit of safety equipment.
  • Enforce all safety rules, activity guidelines, and Camp Williams regulations.
  • Monitor participant behavior and stop activities if unsafe conditions arise.
Installation & Event Operations
  • Escort groups to and from range-controlled areas when required.
  • Follow all MWR policies and range regulations.
  • Maintain awareness and professionalism on an active military installation.
  • Report incidents, injuries, or equipment concerns to MWR leadership immediately.
Equipment & Area Management
  • Assist with set-up, inspection, and break-down of activity equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned activity areas.
  • Secure equipment at the conclusion of events.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and instructions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse age groups.
  • Willingness to work flexible, variable schedules.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain physically active for extended periods.

Additional Information

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to approximately 40 lbs).
  • Ability to work at heights and around safety equipment (as assigned).
  • Ability to work outdoors on uneven terrain and in changing weather conditions.
Supervision
  • Works under the supervision of the MWR Recreation Manager, Coordinator, or Lead Facilitator.
  • This position does not include supervisory or scheduling responsibilities.
