Summary

This job involves helping run an outdoor recreation center on a U.S.

Air Force base in the UK, where you'll set up activities, manage equipment, handle reservations and payments, and keep facilities safe and tidy.

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and is located at the Outdoor Recreation Facility on RAF Lakenheath, UK.

This position requires shift work to provide coverage on days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Scheduled hours will be 0-40 per week with no minimum guaranteed per week.

Who May Apply: Open to everyone. Applicants will be categorized by preference(s) and/or priority consideration eligibilities.

An applicant's eligibility will be determined based on eligibility claimed in the questionnaire and proof of eligibility MUST be provided with application by the closing date, 04/06/2026 Citizens, permanent residents, and legal residents of the United States (US) who reside within the local commuting area (60-mile radius) of RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom (UK), or will do so within the next 30 days.

Permanent and legal residents of the US must be citizens of a NATO country, unless authorized to reside in the UK as a dependent of an employee who serves in support of the US Visiting Forces.

Eligible applicants must possess a US-issued social security number and be able to provide documentation proving residency status in the UK. Applicants cannot be 'ordinarily resident'.

A person is considered to be 'ordinarily resident' if they have resided in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 366 days without an affiliation to the US Visiting Forces.

Time spent in the UK as an employee, or dependent of an employee, of a US agency serving and supporting the US Visiting Forces (i.e., active duty military, federal civilian, AAFES, Red Cross, one of the contract universities, a military banking facility or federal credit union, or US government contractors) is not counted toward being 'ordinary resident'.

In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens may not apply for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules and procedures.

Ability to safeguard and handle cash and skill in the use and maintenance of various recreational equipment and facilities are desirable. However no experience is required. Major Duties:

Performs and/or assists other recreation assistants or specialists in the operation and maintenance of indoor and/or outdoor recreational facilities.

Types of duties include but are not limited to the following: sets up recreational areas for scheduled activities, records attendance, takes reservations and payment for trips and tours, notifies participants of schedule changes, arranges for equipment or tools, charging them out to participants and checking them for condition on their return, decorates community or neighborhood centers or recreation centers for special events, activities or parties, strings tennis or volleyball nets, lines base lines and base paths, sets up batting cages, checks the established safety system of indoor and outdoor recreation, facilities and areas, tools and equipment's, posts announcements of scheduled activities and answers inquiries about item, place, transportation or other matters related to activities scheduled, takes inventory of authorized recreation supplies and equipment, and helps with group activities which require more than one staff monitor, performing specifically assigned tasks.
