Full Job Description

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the JBSA Fort Sam Houston Jimmy Brought Fitness Center Indoor Pool. This is a flexible position with guaranteed 00 hours per week.

You may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. Employees appointed to a flexible category position are not eligible for benefits.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must possess a current and valid Nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills, and procedures.

Must possess a current and valid Nationally recognized Water Safety Instructor Certification. Must posses a current and valid Nationally recognized Basic First Aid Certification.

Must posses a current and valid Nationally recognized CPR certification which includes adult, child, and infant procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Skill in performing water rescues 2. Knowledge of established rules of safety and behavior for a swimming facility. 3. Skill in monitoring activities within swimming areas to identify risks 4.

Skill in administering CPR and first aid.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a lifeguard and perform other related swimming facility duties.

May act as a senior lifeguard at a large facility, or the only lifeguard at a small facility. Monitors activities within assigned swimming areas.

Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Instructs, cautions, and/or expels patrons as appropriate. Reports problems to senior lifeguard or supervisor.

Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries using a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, CPR, and first aid.

Notifies emergency medical services (EMS) and/or other appropriate personnel for more serious accidents/injuries.

Uses equipment such as first aid kits, buoys, ropes, rings, shepherd's hooks, and backboards.

Cleans assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, pool, etc.) according to established schedules and instructions.

Checks pool water chemistry according to established schedules and instructions (e.g., temperature, chlorine, pH, etc.) and documents/ reports findings.

Reports equipment/facilities problems to appropriate personnel. Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification.

Collects admission fees, makes change, and completes appropriate forms. Reports problems to appropriate personnel. Provides swimming lessons according to lesson plans.

Provides demonstrations of various techniques in prescribed lesson plan. Observes students as they execute techniques and provides assistance.

Consults with senior swimming instructor concerning lessons, lesson plans, and any problems.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors an involves long periods of exposure to summer sun and chlorinated water.

May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
