Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lifeguard at the Aquatics Center on Fort Jackson, where you'll watch over swimmers in indoor and outdoor pools, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies by performing rescues and first aid.

You'll also help with swim lessons and training sessions for military personnel. It's a great fit for someone who is physically fit, enjoys working with people, and has a passion for water safety.

Key Requirements

  • Possess Lifeguarding and First Aid certification from American Red Cross or equivalent (e.g., Star Guard, YMCA, ELLIS)
  • Hold American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or American Heart Association CPR/AED certification
  • For water parks, upgrade to Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid certification
  • Obtain Oxygen Administration certification within two weeks if the facility uses O2 bottles
  • Ability to provide maximum surveillance of pool areas and respond to emergencies, including rescues and first aid
  • Knowledge of safety rules, swim lesson procedures, and water survival training (e.g., ATP 7-22.01)
  • Strong communication skills to enforce rules tactfully and provide information to patrons

For Water Parks upgrade the certification to: 'Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid; CPR/PR/AED' (American Red Cross) In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e.

Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty. Major Duties:

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
  • Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 as of October 2020 and assisting with American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide.
  • Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions.
