Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lifeguard at a military base pool in Louisiana, where you'll watch over swimmers, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies by performing rescues and first aid.

You'll also help with swim lessons, keep the pool area clean, and test water quality.

It's a good fit for someone who enjoys working with people, stays calm under pressure, and has basic water safety training.

Key Requirements

  • Possess and maintain Lifeguarding and First Aid certifications from American Red Cross or equivalent (e.g., Star Guard, YMCA, ELLIS)
  • Hold American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent certification
  • Obtain Oxygen Administration certification within two weeks if required for the facility
  • Ability to provide maximum surveillance of pool areas and respond to emergencies
  • Experience or ability to assist in conducting swim lessons and water survival training
  • Skill in maintaining pool cleanliness, performing water tests, and enforcing safety rules
  • Willingness to work at indoor and outdoor pools under the direction of the Aquatics Program Manager

This position is located at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Join our team at Fort Polk-home of the Joint Readiness Training Center.

DFMWR integrates and delivers Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs and services enabling readiness and resilience for a globally-responsive Army. This is an open continuous announcement.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: - Possesses and maintains the following certifications: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e.

Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS); American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.

- For facilities that use Oxygen Administration "02 bottles" the 02 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e.

Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

  • Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Responsible for life-guarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 as of October 2020 and assisting with American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide.
  • Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. And other duties assigned.
