Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lifeguard at pools on a military base in Virginia, where you'll watch swimmers, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies by rescuing people and giving first aid.

You'll also help with swim lessons and keep the pool area clean and safe. It's a good fit for someone who enjoys working with people, stays calm under pressure, and has basic water safety training.

Key Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain Lifeguarding and First Aid certifications (e.g., American Red Cross or equivalent) within 30 days of starting
  • Must possess CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association equivalent)
  • Ability to provide maximum surveillance of pool areas and respond to emergencies, including rescues and first aid
  • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures for indoor and outdoor pools
  • Experience assisting with swim lessons, water survival training, or aquatic programs
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to enforce rules tactfully
  • Willingness to perform water tests, maintain cleanliness, and attend required training

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Applicants must obtain & provide proof of required certifications within 30 days of onboarding.

Possesses and maintains the following certifications: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e.

Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS); American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21 or assisting with American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide. Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed.
  • Adheres to Customer Service standards of the Installation. Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty.
  • Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Performs other duties as assigned.
