To receive credit for the education requirement, you MUST include a legible copy of the official diploma, official transcripts, or official letter from the accredited institution at the time of filing, or within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing.
Please submit documentation to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org and indicate your name, the exam title, and exam number.
The document should show the date the diploma was conferred and be in English; if it is in a foreign language, it must be translated and evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards.
Failure to provide the required documentation will result in application rejection. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted to meet the education requirement.
PART I
A qualifying online typing assessment of 30 net words per minute (wpm). Applicants do not need to appear in person, and may complete the online assessment on a personal device during a specified examination period.
You may not need to take a typing test if you meet any of the following:
Applicants who passed a County typing test through a different department (not DHR), please attach a copy of your typing certificate to your application when you apply.
If you can’t attach it during filing, you must email it to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing.
If you don't meet one of the above conditions, we will send you a link to the Los Angeles County typing performance test during the examination process.
Applicants who do not pass their online typing assessment will not be allowed an additional opportunity, and failure to complete the assessment will result in automatic disqualification.
WE WILL ONLY ADVANCE THE ONES WHO ACHIEVE PASSING SCORES IN THE PERFORMANCE TYPING TEST TO PART II.
PART IIYOU MUST ACQUIRE A SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.
TESTING ACCOMMODATION
If you require an accommodation to fairly complete any part of the assessment process, you will be required to submit documentation from a qualified medical provider or other qualified professional to support your request for a testing accommodation.

You will be provided with an initial deadline to submit documentation and failure to submit the required documentation by the deadline will delay your participation in the examination process and possibility of initial placement on the eligible register.
VETERAN'S CREDITIf you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran’s credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score.
We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org as soon as possible to ensure prompt processing.
ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATIONApplicants who passed the assessments are placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months.
The eligible register from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Technology and Support Division, Communications and Fleet Management Bureau.SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A DETAILED BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH.
Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.
WORK CONDITIONS
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department operates seven (7) days a week, 24-hours a day. Appointees MUST agree to the specified working conditions listed on the supplemental questionnaire.
