Are you a college student or recent graduate passionate about chronic disease management and prevention who desires to make a difference in the health and well-being of Utah residents?
If so, the Healthy Environments Active Living Program within the office of Health Promotion and Prevention at the Utah Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a highly motivated and organized Public Health Intern to support initiatives related to chronic disease management and reduction in Utah.
This internship will provide hands-on experience supporting multi-faceted state programs dedicated to chronic disease reduction and health promotion, with work related to Diabetes, Cardiovascular Health, Physical Activity, Nutrition, and breastfeeding projects.
Provide general administrative assistance to multiple HEAL program areas. Support can include but is not limited to scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, and organizing files.
Assist program staff with conducting background research on chronic disease public health best practices, evidence-based interventions, and state-specific health data related to chronic disease.
Collaborate with program staff, Local Health Departments, and community partners to help coordinate and support the implementation of various grant-funded chronic disease focused activities.
Help develop and organize educational materials, resources, and training modules related to our programs grants.
Engage actively in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to comprehensive public health programming.
Perform various projects or tasks as assigned by supervisors, with assignments subject to change based on program priorities and funding cycles.
The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pmThis position is eligible for hybrid telework.
Also, all physical work for this position (teleworking or in-office) must be performed from within the State of Utah no-later-than 30 days from your start date.
Physical Requirements:Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc.
