Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting mental health care in a military hospital by interviewing patients, conducting psychological assessments, providing counseling, and helping develop treatment plans for those with psychological issues.

It's a hands-on role focused on crisis support and ongoing patient evaluations in a supportive environment.

A good fit would be someone with experience in psychology or counseling who is empathetic, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with diverse patients, including those in high-stress situations.

About the Position: This position is located with Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience required for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) interviewing patients to obtain medical history; (2) analyzing patient information; and (3) administering and scoring psychological tests.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare, Counseling (ex.

crisis, substance abuse, mental health, chemical dependence), Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Social Work, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field of study.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Perform crisis stabilization for high risk patients.
  • Perform group and individual counseling and education for clients with psychological conditions.
  • Perform intake and ongoing mental status evaluations for inpatient clients.
  • Develop the nursing treatment plan based on interviews, observations, records, and psychological test results.
  • Document intervention and the patient's response to treatment and medications.
