Job Description

Summary

This job involves working in a military hospital's psychiatric unit, where you'll interview patients, conduct counseling sessions, and provide support for those with mental health issues to help stabilize and treat them.

About the Position: This position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital Directorate of Nursing; Psychiatric Unit Fort Benning, GA.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interviewing patients to obtain medical history; analyzing patient information, providing administrative and technical support such as performing intakes evaluations; providing group and/or individual practical counseling and processing patients for admissions.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare, Counseling (ex.

crisis, substance abuse, mental health, chemical dependence), Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Social Work, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field of study.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Perform intake for behavioral health patients to determine the mental, emotional, or behavioral needs.
  • Obtain a thorough clinical history through interviews and medical records.
  • Perform crisis stabilization for high-risk patients.
  • Perform group and individual counseling and education for clients with psychological conditions.
  • Perform ongoing mental status evaluations for inpatient clients.
  • Assist in developing a treatment plan based on interviews, observations, records, and test results.
  • Document intervention and the patient's response to treatment and medications.
  • Coordinate activities and encourage participation from patients.
  • Perform a variety of technical, administrative, and clerical duties in support of Behavioral Health.
