Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading efforts to improve the mental health and well-being of prison staff by creating training programs on stress management, resilience, and leadership, while also focusing on suicide prevention and fostering a positive work culture.

It's based in Washington, D.C., within the federal prison system.

Key Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited program
  • Master's or doctoral degree specifically in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from an accredited program
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in I-O psychology, such as developing training programs for employee wellness, leadership development, or organizational culture initiatives
  • Experience in employee suicide prevention, resilience building, and workforce planning in a high-stress environment like law enforcement or corrections
  • Ability to provide system-wide direction on psychological health initiatives, including research, development, implementation, and monitoring
  • Submission of educational transcripts demonstrating degree completion by the application closing date

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Basic Requirements: Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D.

or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. NOTE: Applicants may have received this degree in either clinical or counseling psychology.

AND In addition to meeting the above Basic Requirements, applicant must have: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.

To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Some examples of the qualifying experience are: Experience as an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist developing training programs for employee wellness initiatives (e.g., stress management, resilience, decision-making under pressure, etc.).

Experience as an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist implementing leadership development initiatives for supervisory employees.

Experience as an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist developing effectiveness training for law enforcement employees.

Experience as an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist advising on organizational culture initiatives within an agency/organization.

Experience as an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist providing consultation agency/organization recruitment, retention, and workforce planning.

Applicant must hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from an accredited program.

This position is located in the National Employee Wellness Branch of the Human Resource Management Division (HRMD) located in Washington, D.C.

Oversees research and development of employee wellness (EW) initiatives in the Bureau of Prisons (BOP).

Provides system-wide direction in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the BOP's comprehensive employee psychological health and wellness efforts.

Operates as a technical expert on employee suicide prevention and BOP culture and develops programs to promote employee resilience, improving the overall well-being of the BOP workforce.
