Full Job Description

The Behavioral Health department at NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is seeking a Psychiatrist to join their team. Under general direction, this individual will provide comprehensive psychiatric care and treatment in an outpatient, community-based setting.

Location and hours:
This position is located at NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center at 2220 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

About this position type:
This is a 0.7 FTE (28 hours/week), benefit earning position.

In this position, you will:
  • Conduct psychiatric diagnostic assessments.
  • Evaluate need for medications and prescribes as indicated.
  • Evaluate the need for therapeutic treatment and completes referrals as necessary.
  • Assess patients' competence and make such determinations when appropriate.
  • Engage in bi-monthly consultation with other psychiatry staff to determine need and appropriateness of psychotropic medication and psychiatric assessments.
  • Participate in treatment planning with clinical staff as indicated.
  • Serve as resource person in psychiatric specialty.
  • Provide consultation to staff.
  • Assist in monitoring quality of care provided.
  • Document and maintain records and reports.
  • Assist in program planning and coordination of services.

Need to have:
  • Graduated from an accredited school of medicine with an M.D. degree; a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Completion of an approved internship and formal residency.
  • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the State of Minnesota and eligibility for board certification in psychiatry.

Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Using the EPIC electronic health records system.
    • Working in a hospital, clinic, community, or school system.
    • With crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
    • With being trauma-informed and understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments.
  • Knowledge of resources available through Hennepin County and the community.
  • Ability to:
    • Work with patients of varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including patients who may require the use of an interpreter.
    • Establish effective professional relationships with patients and their families.
    • Gather and interpret pertinent psychosocial and psychological data in cases characterized by complex problems and the ability to use this data to inform diagnostic considerations and develop effective clinical interventions.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other professionals, and the public.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
