What You Will Be Doing:
Conducts orientation of newly hired Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) Psychiatric Nursing Assistant (PNA) and Medical Information and Services Assistants.

Works closely with the Nursing Shift Supervisors (NSS) and the Clinical Lead RN III’s on each patient care unit to ensure clinical orientation and competency checkoffs are completed.

Specifically designs, implements and updates training programs/materials for the Hospital Wide Orientation Program and on-going education of nursing staff.

This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation.

Requirements

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND EITHER
Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska;
OR
One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Psychiatric Nurse 1, Corrections Nurse 1, or Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.

Substitution:
Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Corrections, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.

Special Note: 
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Qualifications

At time of interview applicant must submit:

  • College transcripts (if using education to meet the minimum qualifications). These can also be attached to your application at the time of submission.

Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement)4.

Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement. 5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.

BACKGROUND CHECK
The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.
