Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves working as a receptionist and support staff in a veterans' health office that handles prosthetic devices and sensory aids, where you'll greet patients, answer calls, process requests for equipment, and ensure everything is documented correctly.

The role supports veterans by helping them get the right prosthetics and advising on their use and maintenance.
The incumbent provides support services as receptionist for the Office of the Prosthetics and Sensory Aid Service (PSAS) and is responsible for directing patients and telephone calls to the appropriate individuals within PSAS or other services of the Medical Center.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/13/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience sorting, compiling, typing, and distributing requisitions, orders.
and miscellaneous procurement documents. Experience processing micro-purchase transactions and purchase orders.
Experience using office automation equipment {PC, document scanner, fax., copier, label maker, MS Office, DHCP. IFCAP, VISTA. CPRS & other prosthetic software packages).
Experience and knowledge of procurement policy and procedures along with knowledge of medical terminology. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary.
Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile.
No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Major Duties:
Provides Customer Service by assisting Purchasing Agents in processing of prosthetic requests and prescriptions for items, services & durable medical equipment from physicians, therapists, medical center personnel, patients or their representatives.
Interviews veterans reporting to the service and receives phone calls from beneficiaries.
Advises the patient, family member or other representative on equipment safety and maintenance to include the appropriate use of the Prosthetic Service Card (PSC) for obtaining repairs.
Receives and reviews prosthetic requests for completeness, comparing disability or diagnosis to equipment and/or service normally provided for the condition for which they are requested and/or proper documentation has been provided to justify the Issuance.
Distributes prescriptions, requisitions, and procurement documents, mall, etc.
Examines clinical health records folders to determine legal eligibility and medical entitlement for prosthetic items and services based on adopted criteria and advices veteran of the same.
Operates the PSAS software package to maintain a detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken for veterans and documents their records (VAF 10-2319) showing Items or services provided.
Assists In the collection of data and preparation of reports generated by the Prosthetic software package. Reviews reports and research errors or conflicting information in procurement documentation.
