Job Description

Summary

This entry-level sales role involves promoting and selling products made by Michigan State Industries, a program within the Department of Corrections, to customers across the state.

Responsible for actively selling MSI’s products and services to both current and potential customers. Assists in obtaining product or marketing information as necessary.

Objective is to maximize sales of MSI products while minimizing cost of sales. Provide follow up service to customer requests.

Required to attend trade shows and conferences (in state and out of state), set up and take down MSI booth.

Responsible for coordinating with manufacturing operations and serving as a liaison between customers and factory operations.

The sales territory covers the entire State of Michigan.

Extensive travel, overnight stays and some weekends may be required.

This position will be required to visit operations that are inside the secure perimeter of Correctional Facilities.

This position may be performed remotely based on MSI needs.

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience


Administrative Support Experience

Two years of E10- or E11-level experience.

OR

Four years of advanced or supervisory 9-level, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9 experience.

OR

Two years of advanced or supervisory 10-level experience.

OR

One year of advanced or supervisory 11-level (or higher) experience.

Business and Administrative Experience

Two years of E9- or E10-level experience.

OR

One year of advanced or supervisory 10-level (or higher) experience.

Human Services Experience

Two years of E9- or 10-level paraprofessional* or nursing experience.

OR

Two years of E10- or E11- or supervisory 10-level experience.

OR

One year of advanced or supervisory 11-level (or higher) experience.

Engineering and Scientific Experience

Two years of E10-, E11-level or supervisory 10-level experience.

OR

One year of advanced or supervisory 11-level (or higher) experience.

Safety, Security and Regulatory Experience

Two years of E11-level experience.

*Paraprofessional classifications are those requiring an associate’s degree or two years of college.


Qualifications

Educational Substitution 

College credits may be substituted on a proportional basis (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience. 


Promotional Agent 9 - 12

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.

IMPORTANT: New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
