Full Job Description

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Center in the Research Service.

The primary purpose of the position is to serves as the project assistant for primary care research projects in the Health Services Research's Center of Innovation.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

~AND~ SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position.

To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in Federal Service.

Specialized experience includes working in a medical research organization; supporting principal investigators in research projects; and providing general research study support such as serving as receptionist.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

~AND~ TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist.

In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Major Duties:

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Manages study-related documents and files; Answers, screens, responds, forwards phone messages, and serves as receptionist; Conducts Literature searches by researching specific, publication, websites, and library resources; Assists with management of equipment and supply purchase; Gathers and analyzes budget needs; Assists with Survey research data collection and data entry; Conducts in-person or telephone interviews with potential research participants; Conducts informed consent presentations with research subjects prior to obtaining written informed consent; Tracks recruitment and enrollment; Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 4 years).

Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4).

Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage.

Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum).

The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
