The Organizational Location of the Position is located at Dallas VA Medical Center under Social Work Service, Caregiver Support Program for VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS).
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/23/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Customer Service - The PSA will serve as the point of contact for the CSP and provide vital, sensitive, administrative program information to the Caregiver and/or Veteran, VA approved providers and VA staff via telephone and/or face-to-face.
; Information Management - The Program Support Assistant processes all office automation such as: incoming correspondence, faxes and action documents, and national inquiries.; Self Management - The Program Support Assistant manages multiple competing priorities and manages other administrative duties.

Major Duties:
The position requires excellent relational and communication skills; advanced knowledge of and experience with computers; oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with others; particularly military populations and caregivers that provide assistance to these populations.
Knowledge of and experience in working with a military veteran population within a medical/psychiatric environment is required. Time management skills and a high level of judgment are necessary.
This position also requires independence of action, general latitude for decision making and knowledge of information sources concerning complex questions, policies, and procedures within the Caregiver Support Program.
Duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent serves as the Program Support Assistant (PSA) in support of the Caregiver Support Program staff.
The PSA aids the staff in getting things accomplished through an extensive knowledge and understanding of the organization, regulations, methods, and the other tools or recourses.
The PSA will serve as the point of contact for the CSP and provide vital, sensitive, administrative program information to the Caregiver and/or Veteran, VA approved providers and VA staff via telephone and/or face-to-face.
The Program Support Assistant is an important member of the Caregiver Support Team and is relied upon to have extensive communication with the Veteran/Caregiver enrolled in the program.
The incumbent supports all administrative functions for the CSP.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following: administratively supports all CSP staff; assists with the Annual Caregiver Support Resource Fair; and works collaboratively with other departments throughout VANTHCS as needed.
The PSA has primary responsibility for establishment, monitoring and maintenance of clinic profiles in caregiver support.
He/she advises medical/administrative staff relative to creating new clinic profiles or making changes to established clinics.
Proper configuration of clinic profiles in the Medical Center computer system has direct bearing on scheduling, flow and processes within individual clinic, how workload is captured, and effective reimbursement of CSP special funding.
Maintains and posts time and attendance reports for CSP staff using the automated system and in accordance with established procedures; maintains leave calendar; and, posts projected leave to the calendar.
Prepares and submits work orders (i.e. account issues, printer issues, etc.) for CSP staff.
The ADPAC trains new staff on the use of VA software and equipment and troubleshoots software and hardware problems/issues with equipment such as printers, faxes, monitors, desktop computers, phones, etc.
