Full Job Description

This position is located as part of the Clement J. Zablocki VAMC at the Honey Creek Office located on S 84th St as part of the Acute Outpatient Nursing Division.

The purpose of this position is to provide program support assistance to Division staff related to the Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS), VISTA system applications, Bed Management Solutions (BMS), and related office software and technologies important to maintaining the primary mission of the Division and overall organization.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/02/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position.

To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience includes: Skill in general office procedures including filing systems, VA Correspondence formats, and clerical practices and procedures.

Skill to operate a variety of standard office and VA computer programs and databases. Skill of office automation systems and word processing products (Excel, Power Point, Access, Word, Share Point.

Etc). Skill to perform data entry functions with accuracy. Skill to plan and organize a wide array of work and track multiple deliverables, projects and deadlines.

Skill to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to express thought clearly, and to develop ideas in a logical sequence.

Skill to negotiate effectively with internal and external customers to accept and implement recommendations and partner on initiatives.

Major Duties:

Duties: The employee attains and maintains computer skills on a variety of software programs (VISTA,CPRS, BMS, Microsoft Office Systems).

The employee is responsible for supporting staff with navigating new technology and applications as resources become available.

Assists staff with the developing CPRS progress notes, notes titles, team lists, and notifications preferences. Obtains, organizes, and files administrative reports as requested by Division leadership.

Instructs staff on how to enter clinic notes, order diagnostic and pharmaceutical services, and send or respond to consults.

The employee is required to stay current with any changes to software to maintain proficiency and to be able to train staff.

Identifies and determines staff training needs; may conduct classroom or provide one-on-one instruction.

Uses appropriate methods to develop training materials and applies new technology to training programs.

Develops or obtains training aids and selects pertinent training resources to support the learning of the staffing team.

Works with Clinical Application Coordinators (CACs), Information Security Office, and Employee Education to ensure comprehension and competence as a staff trainer.

Performs work involving the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of information and statistical data.

Prepares and participates in the planning and reporting of information and statistical data results for the Division.

Completes requests related to the Equipment Inventory List (EIL), EPAS, Nursing Hours Per Patient Day (NHPPD), Personal Identification Verification (PIV), and Vista Menu and Key Review.

Create and maintain Division SharePoint Site and Network Folders. Answers questions and provides follow up to employees needing more assistance.

Independently seeks out more information when procedures are not covered by standard hospital policy to properly acquaint and guide staff members with the procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
