Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves providing administrative support and ensuring compliance for a program that helps caregivers of veterans, including tasks like managing data reports and assisting a team.
It also includes general office help for the service. A good fit would be someone organized, comfortable with computers and data, and able to handle stressful interactions with people in need.
The purpose of this position is to perform administrative and program analysis work and ensure program compliance for Veterans in the Caregiver Support Program (CSP).
In additon, the Program Support Assistant provides general administrative assistance for the service.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/23/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing administrative and clerical support to a multi-disciplinary team in support of the mission of the organization, strong ability to work independently to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities, and manage and analyze various spreadsheets, queries and reports for statistical data.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary in nature; however the emotional and physical stress resulting from frequent contacts with distressed individuals, some of whom may be dangerous to self or others, makes the work more demanding then most sedentary positions.

Major Duties:
Caregiver Support Program (CSP) is a clinical program that focuses on the needs of both the eligible Veteran/Servicemember and the eligible Primary and Secondary Family Caregivers.
Within this basic structure, the Program Support Assistant performs the following; Major duties include but not limited to: 1.
Creates and manages various spreadsheets, queries and reports for use in reporting statistical data to higher levels of management (e.g., medical center and national levels). 2.
Utilizes computers, report and spreadsheet creation and management to include data mining, generating reports and pulling data from various sources. 3.
Organizes and maintains records in support of activities associated with environment and facilities management. 4.
Provides programmatic support in key areas to include technical support, maintenance and data mining/reporting. 5.
Interacts with customers with a diverse and varied background in person, via telephone, email or other correspondence. 6.
Implements customer service principles, patient rights and responsibility, and service recovery and has the ability to interact with tact and diplomacy while presenting oneself in a professional manner.
7. Interacts with customers to obtain and clarify information, provide assistance, resolve problems, clarify concerns and coordinate activities. 8.
Performs maintenance on databases, independently resolves technical equipment problems/issues with patients, caregivers and vendors. 9. Manages purchase requests as a fund control point clerk. 10.
Projects/tracks the annual estimates of programmatic costs and responsible for compiling various budget reports as well as maintaining accurate account of actual expenditures. 11.
Prepares clinical and administrative records/charts 12. Performs time-keeping duties for the service utilizing VA time-keeping software. 13.
Performs clerical duties to include faxing, filing, typing, using computer applications, assuring accurate and prompt communications, coordinating meetings, completing work orders and copying, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday Through Friday 8:00 am- 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
