Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a mechanic to maintain, repair, and overhaul production machinery and equipment in a naval shipyard setting.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Production Machinery Mechanic in the Production Resource Department (Code 900) of PSNS and IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

  • You will read blueprints, interpret specifications, make templates, and be familiar with the many types of machines, appliances, and equipment required to overhaul.
  • You will setup and operate lathes, milling machines, and shapers to accomplish emergency work.
  • You will install, maintain, repair, and rehabilitate machine tools.
  • You will remove and replace broken, worn, misaligned, or otherwise faulty parts.
  • You will disassemble machines, appliances, and equipment.
  • You will recommend replacement, building, refitting, or the redesigning of the examined parts.
  • You will provide technical and work instructions to helpers, apprentices, and other employees.
