Job Description

Summary

This job involves supervising probation and parole clients, especially those in a sex offender treatment program, by conducting assessments, preparing reports, and coordinating resources to manage risks and support rehabilitation.

You'll work with courts, agencies, and clients in individual and group settings, often in high-stress situations, with a schedule that includes evenings and flexible hours.

Key Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in any field, or equivalent combination of four years of education and full-time experience in human services or criminal justice
  • Experience supervising probation/parole clients, particularly levels 2-4

  • Strong skills in preparing and presenting written and oral reports for courts, parole boards, and agencies
  • Effective communication and collaboration with clients, criminal justice staff, and external parties

Full Job Description

Schedule will be determined by supervisor due to maintaining the efficiency of governmental operations. Flexible, five, eight-hour days Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

and one evening per week required. Group facilitation is required and may require evening hours. Duty Day Friday core hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Do you enjoy helping others and want to make a significant impact in what you do? If yes, look no further! Fifth District, Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated, skilled Probation/Parole Officer 2 in our Sex Offender Treatment Program unit.

What You’ll Do
As a Probation/Parole Officer 2, you will:

  • Supervises predominantly level 2 through level 4 Probation and Parole clients.
  • Conduct assessments including but not limited to IVVI and DRAOR.
  • Prepare and present accurate written and oral reports on clients for the courts, parole board, administrative hearings, in-house staffing’s and outside agencies in compliance with established deadlines.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with the client population (predominantly Level 1 and 2), criminal justice and related agency staff and other involved parties in individual and group settings.
  • Coordinate internal as well as external resources to address client risk management and case plans to include responding with a balanced approach of accountability and treatment utilizing evidence-based practices when issues arise.
  • Safely and urgently respond in high stress, critical or emergency situations.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field.
  2. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience in a human services or criminal justice field, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 1.
