Job Description

Summary

This job involves mentoring new teachers who specialize in educating students who are blind or have low vision, helping them with assessments, lesson planning, and documentation across South Carolina.

Full Job Description


Serves as the statewide Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Mentor for SCDE-OSES to new/transfer/returning Teachers of the Visually Impaired. Provide training and assist candidates in conducting, reviewing and analyzing assessments specific to students who are blind or low vision (such as FVLMAs, Expanded Core Curriculum Assessments). Under the mentor program, provide training and assist candidates in the development, organization, and planning of instruction. Assist in the completion of required documentation (such as the annual APH and Deaf-Blind Census). Review and problem solve instructional issues, and recommendations. Assist in the selection/ordering of materials, books, and equipment. Supervises and manages all instructional and administrative functions of the Statewide Blind and Visually Impaired Education Services. Supervises all professional staff members; assigns work-loads and establishes work schedules.

Requirements


SC Teacher Licensure in Special Education: Visual Inpairment, licensure as a School Principal and a Master's degree with ten years' experience working with students who are blind and low vision.
