Full Job Description

The Police Security Guard 1 controls admittance of persons or vehicles to the Metro Nashville Police Department facilities. Patrols assigned areas to protect public property, buildings, related facilities, visitors and employees.

The Metro Nashville Police Department is a 24/7/365 operation. Must be willing and able to work any shift, work overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed. Whether you are a sworn or civilian employee, you will be responsible for the general welfare of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County. You will be responsible for ensuring optimum communications both within Metro and between Metro and the general public. Requirements

Controls the admittance of persons or vehicles on government property.Monitors and operates various security and computer devices/systems.Checks identification of employees and visitors to the Police Department facilities.Issues visitors passes and maintains visitor log.Gives directions and provides other information to employees and the public.Patrols government property on foot or with a vehicle, to ensure that areas are clear of obstructions, loiterers and vandalism.Maintains order and calls for police assistance as needed.Carries firearms and attends in-service training programs.

Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or Equivalent and three (3) years of verifiable work experience.

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.***No Substitution****LICENSE REQUIREDValid Drivers License**Handgun carry permit must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period.

Employees must complete a forty (40) hour training program prior to completion of the probationary period.

Employees in this classification must meet and maintain the standards set by the Metropolitan Police Department for carrying a firearm.

Failure to meet or maintain these standards shall result in disciplinary action. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.Note: Per Metro Ordinance No.

SO94-1078.

All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
