This job is an entry-level training role for aspiring police officers in Long Beach, California, where recruits attend a full-time academy to learn essential skills like laws, self-defense, firearms handling, and community policing under close supervision.

This classification qualifies for Recruitment Incentives including a $6,000 hiring bonus, and $1,000 a month in housing and/or childcare subsidies for a combined total of up to $54,000 in recruitment incentives.

Qualifications Twenty and a half years of age or older at the time of filing.U.S. high school graduate or G.E.D.
equivalency**.Valid driver’s license**.Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
Cannot be on court-ordered probation at the time of application or hire.No felony convictions.Have vision correctable to 20/20.Have no physical or mental limitations that might prevent the completion of any duty assignment.**Do not attach proof of the requirements to file with your application.

Bilingual language ability (Spanish, Khmer, or Tagalog) is desirable for some positions.

Applicants will be given the opportunity to choose and self-schedule for ONE of the two offered Police Recruit exams: National Testing Network Frontline Exam (NTN) or the California Commission for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB).
The required exam will be waived for applicants who possess one of the following:NTN scores: Video – 65, Reading – 70, and Writing – 70. issued within twelve (12) months of the application filing date.
(Human Resources will request the scores directly from NTN. Scores WILL NOT be accepted directly from applicants for this exam.)
