Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This is a developmental position and may be filled at any grade level.

This position provides non-competitive promotion potential to the full performance grade of GS-07 if all requirements are met.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

For GS-6: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Maintaining order and protecting life; 2) Responding to citizens in emergency/non-emergency situations; and 3) Protecting property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

For GS-7: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing law enforcement investigation in accordance with established policies and procedures; 2) Collecting/preserving evidence for an investigation; and 3) Preparing statements concerning incidents such as accidents or law violations.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

Position may be filled as a Term appointment NTE 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) six years, up to eight (8) years.

With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

**NOTE - A current Army employee with personal competitive status accepts a time-limited appointment (such as term or temporary appointment), the Army employee forfeits their permanent status and becomes subject to the provisions of the term or temporary appointment.

**Permanent employees who accept time-limited appointments will not have placement rights to the previously held permanent position at the end of the time-limited appointment.

Employees who accept such time-limited appointment opportunities will be required to sign a statement of understanding.

**Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

Major Duties:

  • Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the, apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.
  • Serve as a police patrol officer enforcing Federal criminal laws and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) involving persons and property.
  • Protect government property, materials and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage and espionage.
  • Detain or arrest suspected or guilty persons.
  • Collect and protect evidence, witnesses, victims, etc.
  • Arrest persons committing or suspected of committing crimes on the installation.
  • Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.
