Job Description

Summary

This job is for a police officer at a Navy base in San Diego, where you'll enforce laws, control access to secure areas, direct traffic, issue citations, and document incidents to protect people and property.

It's a good fit for someone with basic law enforcement or security experience who wants to serve in a federal role and is willing to complete required training at a federal academy.

Entry-level candidates with general experience in protective or administrative work can qualify at the starting grade.

Key Requirements

  • At least 6 months of general experience (e.g., administrative, clerical, technical, or military work involving protection of property, equipment, data, or materials) and 6 months of specialized experience (e.g., knowledge of basic laws, maintaining order, protecting life and property) for GS-04
  • For GS-05: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04, including issuing citations, preparing reports, and protecting property
  • Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program as a condition of employment
  • Agreement to 36 months of continued service after FLETC training, with potential reimbursement for training costs if not fulfilled
  • Ability to enforce laws, regulations, and statutes; control access to restricted areas; direct traffic; and document events
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearances
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform duties in a law enforcement environment

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Police Officer in the Force Protection Division of NAVBASE SAN DIEGO SEC DET.

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques.

2) Responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.

General experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials.

2) Making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.

Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program is a condition of continued employment.

Employee will be required to sign a continuing service agreement prior to travel to the academy.

Agreement to Continue in Service - CSA, Agency requires 36 months of continued employment after the completion of required training from the FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR410.309.

Failure to voluntary complete length of employment requirement can subject employee to reimburse to the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) paid in connection with the training.

Major Duties:

  • You will control access of pedestrians or vehicular traffic to restricted areas.
  • You will monitor and evaluate progress of major law enforcement projects.
  • You will enforce laws, regulations, and statutes for the protection of life, property, and rights of individuals.
  • You will direct traffic and issue citations for improper vehicle operations and parking violations.
  • You will complete forms for documentation of events (e.g., issuing citations, interviewing witnesses).
