This job is an entry-level apprenticeship for young adults interested in becoming police officers, where you'll rotate through different parts of the police department doing supportive tasks like answering phones, helping visitors, and assisting with events, all while learning about law enforcement without any real danger.
It's a paid program that gives hands-on exposure to various police operations to prepare you for a future career in policing.
A good fit would be someone aged 18-21 with a high school diploma, some college credits, and a strong interest in law enforcement but no prior experience needed.
Performs clerical duties including recordkeeping, answering telephones, data processing and filing;Greet citizen walk-ins;Provide general information about the Police Department;Identify the scope of a citizen complaint or contact and provide referral to the appropriate resource;Fingerprint individuals in support of the Private Security Unit;Participate in formalized training courses and programs as assigned;Assists with parking enforcement and traffic control at special events;Assists in processing and storing evidence, storage inventory and control of department supplies (Property Control Unit);May perform desk duties, including telecommunications (telephone, computer terminal, radio), assisting persons at the counters of the precinct stations, processing reports;Prepares clear, accurate and complete reports on any and all activities engaged in.
Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED)Enrolled or anticipating enrolling in an accredited university or college, or at least 33 college credit hours from an accredited university or collegeMust be between the ages of 18 and 21 years old.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Since the St.

Due to this reputation, the County Police Cadet Program application process is highly competitive.
A Cadet is not expected to have prior experience, but is expected to have an interest in a career in law enforcement.
Additional Information CITIZENSHIP: Citizen of the United States or valid work permit, and apply for citizenship when eligible.AGE LIMITS: Eighteen (18) years of age at the time of appointment.EDUCATION: Educational requirements and skills will be determined by the position classification.PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG GUIDELINES: Any illegal adult use or possession of a controlled substance, including marijuana, within one year prior to employment.
The word “drug” refers to any type of controlled substance for which you do not have a prescription; to include marijuana in all forms (edibles, gummies, or any other product containing THC).TATTOO POLICY: Department employees shall not display tattoos that are visible on the face, neck, or head.
Tattoos which may be visible in a short sleeve uniform will be considered by the Chief of Police on a case-by-case basis.
Imagery which may be deemed inappropriate or offensive in nature shall be considered grounds for disqualification.
Applicants will be required to provide a photograph and explanation to provide context of any visible tattoos.ARREST: Must be free from conviction of a felony or a Class "A" misdemeanor.MILITARY: Must not have a "Dishonorable" discharge or "Bad Conduct" discharge if having served in the military.
